Student Laptop Insurance (Voluntary)

Apollo-Ridge School District
Voluntary Student Laptop Insurance

The educational program at your student’s school includes a Laptop that will be issued to your student for their use at school and home. We are very excited to be able to make these powerful tools available to our students. We also understand that both students and parents are concerned about keeping these tools secure and in good working order.

Like textbooks, team uniforms and other school property issued to your student, there is a responsibility to take appropriate care of these valuable resources. The Laptop is no different, but it does represent an increased cost to the district and liability to students and parents. We know that loss and accidents will happen. District policies, regulations and practices require that a fee be levied to cover the repair or replacement cost of district property. With computing devices, like the Laptops, the cost of loss or damage can be significant.

However, the district provides VOLUNTARY Laptop Insurance as a way for families to reduce the financial risk if a Laptop is accidentally damaged, stolen, vandalized. Working as a team we can lessen the impact of an accident or theft.

COVERAGE AND BENEFIT: The FIRST insurance policy covers the Laptop loaned to the student against all accidental damage, theft, vandalism or loss up until the FIRST claim. In order to be covered by insurance after the first claim, a second insurance policy will need to be purchased. This program does NOT cover the laptop case. This program does NOT cover damage or loss of the power cord, which we ask students to keep at home. This program does NOT cover intentional misuse, abuse or neglect by any household members. If the student did not exercise proper care and/or take appropriate precautions, as described in the student handbook, and this behavior resulted in damage to or loss of the Equipment, the cost of the repair or replacement will be the responsibility of the student/parent.

Upon paying for Laptop Insurance, if the Laptop is accidentally damaged or vandalized, it will be repaired as shown in the table below:

THEFT: If the Laptop is stolen, the Apollo-Ridge School District will require that a police report be submitted.  Fraudulent reporting of theft will be turned over to the police for investigation. A student making a false report will also be subject to disciplinary action.

LOSS: If the Laptop is lost, the district will reduce the replacement cost to $100 for the first loss.  Upon payment, the student will be issued a replacement Laptop.  In the event that the lost Laptop is recovered in working condition, the replacement cost previously paid by student/parent will be refunded.  Any subsequent loss will be charged to the parent/student at full replacement cost.

Any Laptop lost or stolen will be remotely disabled and all functionality removed until the Laptop is returned.

Students who withdraw from the Apollo-Ridge School District are required to return the Laptop within five (5) calendar days of their withdrawal.  Graduating seniors must return the Equipment on or before their last instructional day.  Seniors who have not return the Equipment will not be permitted to participate in commencement exercises.  A failure to return the Equipment may be reported to local law enforcement as possible theft.  The Laptop will be remotely disabled and all functionality removed until the Laptop is returned.

Every student will receive a copy of the A-RMS Student Laptop Handbook at the beginning of the school year or when they register as a student here at Apollo-Ridge.  Parents have the opportunity to "opt in" to the Voluntary Insurance Plan at that time.  If they reconsider and would like to "opt in" later in the year, they can do so as well.  The Voluntary Student Laptop Insurance form is located in the A-RMS Student Laptop Handbook and it is available on the Middle School Website.  Simply click HERE or locate the link for the Student Laptop Handbook on the left hand side of this page in the blue submenu list.
