Students Without Internet

Students that legitimately do NOT have internet will still need to participate meaningfully in the Flexible Instruction Day in order to be marked present.  Apollo-Ridge Middle School teachers will provide a Flexible Instruction Day virtual folder and download it to every student's laptop that will include either previously recorded lessons or supplemental lessons and assignments to each student that does NOT have internet.  This will ensure that instruction would be able to be provided to students regardless of their situation.  Each teacher will place 5 lessons/activities in a folder on each students laptop at the beginning of the year or when we begin to get close to exhausting all of our built-in "Snow Make-up Days".  The teachers will make sure that these contingency assignments will review previously taught concepts or provide downloadable video instruction of current and relevant concepts being taught at school.  These contingency assignments will be completed and submitted the next day they attend school or the next time they could connect to the internet and submit them electronically to their teacher.  Students that are working on the contingency assignments will have the ability to ask questions and get help when we resume school during our normal tutoring times every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00am-7:30am or they could get additional help by asking the teacher during 7th period (enrichment/remediation) daily.

As a reminder, students that fail to attend the live Zoom classes or turn in the assignments on the subsequent school day will be considered absent.  If the student turns in an excuse (parental, medical, court, etc.), we would consider it to be an excused absence.  Failure to turn in an excuse would be considered an unexcused or unlawful absence.  Teachers will be responsible to taking both daily and period by period attendance on Flexible Instruction Days like they normally do on regular, in-person school days.

Please NOTE:  Students that do NOT have internet MUST notify their teachers and/or the office in writing at the beginning of the year (this is done so on the annual Student Demographic Page that is sent home and must be returned) so we can make appropriate accommodations.  If you lose internet during the year, students must notify their teachers and/or the office immediately to ensure appropriate Flexible Instruction Day accommodations are made.  Failure to notify the teachers and/or the office will not constitute an acceptable excuse for missing that Flexible Instruction Day.
