Career Exploration

The Apollo-Ridge Middle School/High School is committed to promoting and fostering innovation and career exploration.  A-RMS/A-RHS utilizes the RIASEC model which is a career development framework that helps students identify their preferred interests and select job roles or career clusters.  The model is based on the idea that a person's personality influences their vocational choices.  RIASEC is an acronym for Realistic (Doers), Investigative (Thinkers), Artistic (Creators), Social (Helpers), Enterprising (Persuaders), and Conventional (Organizers).  By integrating career discussion and exploration throughout our curriculum, A-RMS/A-RHS is able to blend career theory with instructional best practices.  This model cultivates a culture of career curiosity within our school, enabling all students to develop a vivid future self.

A-RMS/A-RHS partners with SMART Futures, a non-profit software development team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that specializes in the field of career education technology.  Their goal is to help schools easily implement the Career Education and Work (CEW) Standards within any classroom or virtually.  Through this resource, A-RMS/A-RHS is able to provide students with career lessons that are specifically geared towards their career interest inventory and give students exposure to various careers and career clusters.  Click here to learn more about SMART Futures.
