6th Grade/New Student Orientation

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you on behalf of the entire staff to Apollo-Ridge Middle School.  I am looking forward to your child coming to the Middle School to continue their education.

As all of you are quite aware, this year will be substantially different for many different reasons.  Moving from the elementary school to the middle school is a dynamic change, and there are many differences between the two levels.  Adjusting to changes in a new school, as well as adjusting to adolescence, can be troublesome at times for some sixth grade students.  Many times, simply knowing what to expect can help to minimize or eliminate the fears and anxieties that come with this transition.  Therefore, the purpose of the Middle School Orientation is to inform you of the changes that students will face and to offer suggestions as to how parents can help make the transition from fifth grade to sixth grade a positive and productive experience for you and your child.  Unfortunately, due to the restrictions and guidelines in place, we will not be able to have a traditional, in-person 6th grade orientation.  However, we will hold our very first virtual 6th Grade/New Student Orientation.

On Thursday, August 13, 2020, Apollo-Ridge Middle School will hold their first-ever virtual 6th Grade/New Student Orientation for students and parents beginning at 12:00 pm.  All parents and students will need to do is go to this website to view our virtual 6th Grade/New Student Orientation:

This link can be found on the Middle School website with the school calendar and also in the “News Headline” titled Virtual 6th Grade/New Student Orientation.  Unfortunately, there is a maximum amount of people that can attend this session and it is capped at 150 people.  I am asking that families view this together on one device to help minimize the amount of people logging in.  Please note that this Virtual 6th Grade/New Student Orientation will be recorded and published to the Middle School Website after the conclusion of the virtual orientation meeting.  Please visit and bookmark the Middle School Website ( https://middleschool.apolloridge.com/ ).  We pride ourselves on providing a constantly updated school website and use it to actively communicate with all of our middle school parents.  Also, please be sure to follow the Apollo-Ridge Middle School on Twitter.  Our Twitter handle is:  @ARMiddleSchool.

During the course of this event, you and your child will learn about the rules and expectations for upcoming year.  It will also give students and parents an opportunity to ask questions pertaining to the upcoming school year.

I can’t stress enough that it is shaping up to be another unprecedented school year.  Unfortunately, I can’t predict what the future holds.  However, I can promise you that the Middle School Faculty/Staff and I will do everything within our power to create a safe learning environment for all of our students with the hope of starting to create some sense of normalcy for our students.  I hope that you will be able to attend this very important event with the hopes of answering some of the questions you and your child may have regarding the 2020-2021 school year.  I look forward to meeting you (virtually).
