Traumatic Events & Grief Support/Resources

When tragic events happen, students can be affected by the news and ask questions adults are not prepared to answer.  How adults respond is important in providing the support, reassurance, and guidance needed to help children and teens understand and cope with their feelings.  Below are some useful and informative resources to help parents, caregivers, and educators address student concerns following traumatic situations:

Here are some additional resources if you are in need of some Grief Support resources:
  • Hopeful Hearts - Hopeful Hearts provides a safe and caring environment for grieving children and their families to come together and safely explore and share their experiences, feelings, and memories of the person who has died.
  • Highmark Caring Place - The Highmark Caring Place, A Center for Grieving Children, Adolescents and Their Families, is a safe place where grieving children and families can come together and be with others who understand what they’re going through.
  • The National Alliance for Grieving Children - The National Alliance for Children’s Grief (NACG) is a nonprofit organization that raises awareness about the needs of children and teens who are grieving a death and provides education and resources for anyone who supports them. Through the collective voice of our members and partners, we educate, advocate and raise awareness about childhood bereavement.
